Top 10 Tailgating Recipes for your Parking Lot Party

UGame Day.  It's BIG in my house.  Every Sunday I pull on my lucky red 49er shirt and either go to Candlestick Park for the game and a parking lot party or stay at home and eat and drink in front of the TV and watch as many games as I care to.  And if anything interferes with my game day, well, that's what Smart Phones are for, I guess.

Food Network recently came out with a list of their top 50 favorite tailgate party recipes and out of those, I chose MY favorite top 10.

Here they are.....

Tangy Corn Relish....imagine scooping this with some corn chips or tortilla chips....or maybe even in a leaf of butter lettuce for the perfect lettuce wrap.  

Whenever we bring sausage to an event or party, it's usually the first to go.  Tasty, salty, easy to handle, how perfect is this Grilled Sausage with Spicy Sauce for your tailgate party?!

My mouth immediately began watering when I spotted this Shrimp and Pineapple Not So Po' Boy creation. I'm a sucker for lightly battered seafood..... OH MY!

Hoagie Dip....how can this be wrong when it looks so right?!

For some spice, Guy's Poblano Stuffed with Chorizo, Shrimp and Rice.

No football game can be complete without a pot of chili...Steak Fajita Chili...yum yum.

You know I had to go with this recipe for the name alone!  Farm in a Blanket.  Stuffed with onions, raisins, provolone and salami.

Oh boy, another stuffed piece of heaven.... Mortadella Stromboli.  Stuffed with Swiss or Gruyere cheese, string cheese, basil, olives, tomato sauce and mortadella.  Sure to satisfy a hungry appetite on game day.

I can't have a football party without some adult party punch, I just can't.  Homecoming Punch has cranberry juice, orange juice, pink lemonade, brandy and some sparkling wine.  Served up in a mason jar or a Solo cup...either will work just fine!

Last but certainly not least....something sweet.  Mini Peanut Butter Cupcakes.  Need I say more?

Crock Pot Chicken Apple Curry

Wednesdays in our house are Crock Pot dinner nights.....with baseball practice at 5-7p.m., soccer practice from 6-7p.m., these kids are hungry by the time we get home at 7:15 and something needs to be ready to go by the time we get home.

I really enjoy the chicken Crock Pot meals, because they only take four hours to cook and if I'm out of an ingredient or two, I have time to run to the store in the a.m. without feeling rushed to get the meal in the Crock Pot right away.

This Crock Pot Apple Curry recipe was a hit the other night.  It was my first time making it and although I love the curry flavor, I was a little aprehensive making it for the family, but it was a HIT!

PBR Rodeo Action

Paige is constantly asking if she can accompany me on the events and girl's nights that I attend and most of the time the answer is "no".  But when my friend, Mendy, asked if we wanted to go to the PBR {Professional Bull Riders} event at Oracle Arena last Friday night, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to take Paige on a special night out.  So we cowgirled her up; boots, braids, button up blouse, blingy jeans and we were off to Oakland.

First thing's first....photo opp with Brazilian bull rider, Fabiano Vieira.

Had to do it......you know, for Paige of course.

Lights, camera, flames,

action.....all the ingredients needed for a fun and exciting night.

These young bull riders are such athletes.  I really don't know HOW they are able to stay on a 2,000 plus pound bucking bull for 8 seconds....

and escape from getting stomped on when they do come off.

After the first section of the event, guess who made it on the Jumbo Screen......Miss Paige managed to be chosen from out of the stands by Wrangler as the "Cutest Little Cowgirl".  Rodeo clown, Flint, came up to meet her and give her some goods; Wrangler travel bag, gift cards and a short interview.

 She was diggin' it....

Back to the action.  Thirty-five bull riders throughout the night.

Exciting action, all to great music blaring from the speakers that,

by the end of the night, had Paige dancing and flipping her hair in the aisle.  

Uh oh, she's hooked, I'm afraid.

My New Best Friend....Krusteaz Molten Deep Dish Cookies & Giveaway

Krusteaz is something you will find in my pantry as a staple.  I use their pancake/waffle mix year round, I look forward to autumn when their seasonal spiced pumpkin bread/muffin mix, which I LOVE.  So when I was contacted by Krusteaz to inquire whether or not I wanted to try out their new line of Deep Dish Cookies, I of course, said yes.  I know many of you are in the same boat as I am; back to school, classroom parties and special treats needed for events and you may want to try something a little different from the usual cupcake or cookie recipe you bake.  

Krusteaz sent out three different varieties of their new Deep Dish Cookies:  Sugar Cookie with a chocolate center, Chocolate Cookie with a caramel center and the one I chose to bake first, Classic Cookie with a chocolate center.

All that's required to complete the recipe is one stick of butter and one egg.  Easy.  Another bonus.

Mix the box mix with the egg and melted butter to form the cookie dough batter.

Spoon a tablespoon of dough into a ball.

Flatten out into a non-stick sprayed muffin tin.

Snip the chocolate package that's contained in the box and squeeze out about a teaspoon on top of the dough.

Flatten out another tablespoon size dough ball and place on top of the chocolate and press gently to seal the edges.

Bake for 18-20 minutes.

Pop out of the tin.

And you will thoroughly enjoy these deep dish cookies.  Oh my.  The Classic totally tastes like a chocolate chip cookie.....I loved it with a tall glass of ice cold milk.

Labor Day Wrap Up

There wasn't a whole lotta labor going on around here on Labor Day.  Instead, we headed over to our good friend's house for a festive and exciting pool party.  They broke out the home made Margarita Machine and everything!.....yes, it's powered by a lawn mower motor.....no messing around.

What's YOUR Favorite Boot?? Justin Boots, perhaps?

A few months ago, we were sent a pair of Justin Original Workboots to try out and review.  I'm a huge Justin boot fan already.  The company has been around since 1879 and boots are made in the USA, always a plus in my book.  I have a few pairs of them myself,  for kicking around the ranch, so when I had the opportunity to grab a pair for Dominic to try out and review, I was on it.

Dominic chose Justin Lace-up Workboots.   He's been wearing them since June and feels they are heavy duty enough to withstand everyday wear and tear on the ranch and at deer camp on the weekends.  He feels the fit is comfortable enough for all day wear, they have excellent ankle support and was pleased with the look and durability of the boots. Plan Your Meals a Week Ahead

On a normal day, I am sent many, many email requests asking me to share with you all the latest and greatest {fill in the blank} .  Many I pass over, but when I do read something that's intriguing and I think might be helpful, not only in my life, but in yours as well, I like to share.

This morning I opened up an email from Cooking PlanIt, an app / website offering to help busy families with meal planning.  It's free, online.  It gives you everything you need from the grocery list, step by step instructions, to the equipment you'll need to create the dish.  They call it a "GPS for the kitchen" and by the looks of it, it is.

If you're like me, you rotate 8 or so meals throughout the week.  Those 8 meals are my "go-to" meals where I don't have to think about prep time, I have the ingredients on-hand at the house, always, and the family will enjoy it.  It's nice to gather other ideas when possible.  I plan on using Cooking PlanIt to help me out of the cooking rut  I'm in this busy back to school, soccer, fall ball, piano lesson schedule we're in.

Maybe beginning with this, Spaghetti in a Jiffy...

10 New Ideas for Back to School Lunches

The back to school lunch menu....fresh ideas are always welcome, right?!  My kids aren't huge fans of sandwiches, so coming up with something healthy and full of protein to give them enough energy to get them through the afternoon is top on my list of things to search for.  Here's what I've come up with after searching online.......


#1 from Food Network.... Lemon Roasted Chicken Salad Wrap.  Full of flavor with chicken, Greek yogurt, cranberries, walnuts, Dijon, water chestnuts, tarragon and red onion.

#2, also from Food Network.... Cold Peanut Soba Noodles with Chicken with soba (buckwheat) noodles, edamame, green onion, cucumber, soy sauce, ginger, and rotisserie chicken, just to name a few of the ingredients.

#3 from Eating Well..... Strawberry Cream Cheese Sandwich.... quick and easy with just a few ingredients, honey included.

#4:  I have one child that's a "dipper", so when I saw this Zesty Bean Dip and Chips from Eating Well I thought it would a huge hit with lots of protein and it only takes 5 minutes to put together!

#5:  Pizza is another favorite in my house.  How pleasing does this look?!....  Pizza Roll-Up Bento Lunch by Eating Well.

#6:  BLT Pasta?!...YES please...by Real Simple

#7:  What kid doesn't enjoy Classic Chicken Soup ?  Thank you for the reminder...Real Simple.

#8:  Place this comfort food in a Thermos and I think my kids would be happy.... Bean and Chicken Sausage Stew by Real Simple.

#9:  Spiced Mini Burgers with Couscous Salad by Real Simple.  Burgers are always a hit in my house.

#10:  Pasta Salad with Salami and Mozzarella also by Real Simple.  Tossed with some chopped spinach and grape tomatoes....mouth watering.

Back on track after some Margarita Madness

Today was our kids' first day of school and I think I pretty much did a drive-by and shoved them out the car door this morning.....this was not my intent, originally, but on our short five minute ride to school, the two of them were at each other and it was then, that very moment, that I realized how ecstatic I was for the 1st day of school to be here.


Clearly, I was not the only one excited for the first day of school.  This is what I found when I opened the door to Paige's room, yesterday afternoon.....

Our summer went quickly and we all had loads of fun, but it feels SO good to get back on track with a regular schedule and routine.  Back to blogging more regularly, soccer practice, fall ball practice, gymnastics, CCD and hopefully some piano lessons filtered in somewhere.

The reason I've been MIA this past week and a half was due to party preparations.  We host a Margarita Madness party here on the ranch, at our house every year and this was the biggest yet.

Hours of prep time, decorating, etc. for this party.

Many friends helped out, thankfully.....stage & lighting set up, new artificial lawn (love), outdoor heat lamps borrowed, so much help....

Party time.....

This year we had the pleasure of having Philadelphia rockers, John Faye and Brittany Rotondo play for us at the party...SO fun!  If you haven't heard their music, it's a must hear, love, love them.......John and Brittany

I think we had almost more kids than adults at this party of 200 and they were diggin' the music as much as the adults, for sure.

After John and Brittany finished up their sets, the kids took over the stage for a rock show of their own....

It's my party and I'll sing if I want to......

And what better way to finish off the weekend but with chocolate birthday cake.....
