Partying for FFA

It's been a whole year since I've blogged about attending the FFA Dinner/Dance Fundraiser.  Well, last night we attended the event again to show our support for Petaluma FFA.

It's a really fun event held at the Elk's Lodge and entertaining a sold out crowd.  A silent auction, live auction and a raffle help to raise funds for Petaluma FFA - Future Farmers of America.  The Petaluma and surrounding areas really rally when it comes to showing support for our future farmers.

Check out some of who was in attendance: Doug Buttke; Dairyman, Mike Morretti; Dairyman, Renee Renati; another wife of a Dairyman, Mark Pomi; rancher & Firefighter and Don Silacci; retired Dairyman{but has another career now}.

One thing about attending a party at an Elk's Lodge, they have a great selection of cocktails to choose from {for a very inexpensive cost}.  My cocktail for the evening was a Myers Rum and diet Coke.

Cocktail hour before dinner - Dominic, Louie Ghirardeli, Darrin DeCarli and Mark Pomi

Getting ready to eat.  Can you believe I forgot to take any photos of the food!  It was good.  We had tri-tip roast, turkey, pasta, green salad, sauted mushrooms and veggies with some creamy cheesecake for dessert.

Another way the Petaluma FFA makes some money is the welding students make the table displays and various decorations and at the end of the night you can purchase them.

Some of the girls..........

Our table -  Darrin & Trisha DeCarli, Cindy & Mark Pomi - thanks Cindy for being our designated driver for the evening!

What Happens When You Turn a Six Year Old Loose at a FFA Cake Auction?

The temptation was too much for our six year old, Bryce.  He saw all these sugar coated treats and couldn't help himself with his bidding.  Paige and I stayed at home, we had a "cranky" day yesterday and she needed to go to sleep at an earlier time so we missed all the fun.

The Petaluma FFA Cake Auction is a fundraiser for Petaluma FFA.  It happens once a year and is always something to look forward to.  Before Dominic and Bryce headed over to the event, I gave Bryce my point and shoot camera with instructions to take some photos of the event.  He loves a job, especially when it involves my camera.

Bryce surveyed the goods.

Picked out his choices to bid on.

Before the auction, a potluck dinner is eaten by the guests.  A huge array of food to choose from.

Okay, back to the cakes.  This next cake up for bid was Bryce's front runner.  He REALLY wanted it.

The bidding is up to $55, the auctioneer looks at Bryce and asks, "Will you go $60?"

Bryce yells, "I'll go $100!!"

Going once, going twice........SOLD for $60 to the 6 year old with Daddy's check book!

Sold again to the 6 year old!

And one last time, SOLD for $90 to the 6 year old! {this homemade toffee is to DIE for! Worth every dollar!}

It's a good thing we have our annual Marin County Farm Bureau holiday dinner planned for tonight, because the 20 pound cake is going to the restaurant with us.

Ag in the {new} Classroom

Yesterday we attended the Petaluma High School Agriculture Department Open House to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated and upgraded Agriscience classroom.

Petaluma Mayor, Pamela Torliatt along with Petaluma's Ag Advisor, Kim Arntz and newly hired Ag teacher, Mike Touchstone begin the ribbon cutting ceremony just outside the renovated classroom.

Snip.

At one time, this classroom was the boy's gym locker room.

My assistant, Bryce, helping me by taking additional photos.

Mayor Torliatt also presented Petaluma FFA's International Champion Dairy Judging Team with a certificate from Senator Mark Leno commending them on their accomplishment.

You can read all about their journey in one of my previous posts titled, "The Scotland Adventure".

Sam Cheda, Rocco Cunningham, Mandy Brazil, Kelli Carstensen & Mayor Torliatt

You can't have an Ag open house {or any open house} without food and there was plenty of that!

Delicious sausage.

A platter of local cheeses from the Petaluma Creamery.

For some reason I ended up with about 100 photos of brownies.

Also in attendance was David Rabbitt, who is currently running for Sonoma County Supervisor.

This is the high school that both Dominic and I attended and it's always fun to go back for a visit to see what changes have taken place.

These are the type of the things students can learn to build in an Ag class and oh, how I would like to have this BBQ!  Maybe Bryce will build one for me in 10 years when he's in high school.....let's hope he'll have the opportunity if he so desires and these Ag classes will still be around at that time.
Happy Monday!
