What Happens When You Turn a Six Year Old Loose at a FFA Cake Auction?

The temptation was too much for our six year old, Bryce.  He saw all these sugar coated treats and couldn't help himself with his bidding.  Paige and I stayed at home, we had a "cranky" day yesterday and she needed to go to sleep at an earlier time so we missed all the fun. 

The Petaluma FFA Cake Auction is a fundraiser for Petaluma FFA.  It happens once a year and is always something to look forward to.  Before Dominic and Bryce headed over to the event, I gave Bryce my point and shoot camera with instructions to take some photos of the event.  He loves a job, especially when it involves my camera.

Before the auction, a potluck dinner is eaten by the guests.  A huge array of food to choose from.

Okay, back to the cakes.  This next cake up for bid was Bryce's front runner.  He REALLY wanted it.

The bidding is up to $55, the auctioneer looks at Bryce and asks, "Will you go $60?"

Bryce yells, "I'll go $100!!" 

Going once, going twice........SOLD for $60 to the 6 year old with Daddy's check book!

Sold again to the 6 year old!

And one last time, SOLD for $90 to the 6 year old! {this homemade toffee is to DIE for! Worth every dollar!}

It's a good thing we have our annual Marin County Farm Bureau holiday dinner planned for tonight, because the 20 pound cake is going to the restaurant with us.

Scotland or Bust FFA Fundraiser

Last night the Scotland or Bust fundraiser for the Petaluma FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation State Championship Team was held.  This is the team that Dominic coaches and who came in 2nd place, overall on the National level.  They have been invited to compete at the Royal Highland Show in Scotland in June of this year.

This is a remarkable accomplishment for this team of four, Kelli Carstensen, Mandy Brazil, Sam Cheda and Rocco Cunningham.  An accomplishment that the entire local Ag community is so very proud of.  And this was shown last night by the 300+ attendees to this fundraiser.

The evening included a pasta feed which was served continuously through the event.  This allowed for guests to filter in anytime from 4:30 - 9:00p.m.

Speaking of bar, here's another type of bar for grownups.  And along side this bar, you were able to purchase...........

raffle tickets (cards) for a chance to win either a 12 gauge shotgun and/or a 270 rifle.  The rifle and shotgun were donated by Legacy Sports out of Reno, NV who happen to be hunting buddies to Dominic and my father in law.  The rifle was donated completely and the shotgun was donated at cost.  Playing cards were sold for $20 each and a deck of cards was sold for each gun.  Not bad odds!

I'm happy to report the fundraiser was VERY successful!  It has allowed for each of the four team members and a FFA Advisor to travel to Scotland and back!   This couldn't have been accomplished without  GREAT community support.  I'm proud to be part of a community that is always there, giving their undying support to all programs related to agriculture.  This is what it takes to keep agriculture education going strong and ongoing in our community.

A Saturday Night Out~FFA Fundraiser & Volpi's

Last Night we attended a Petaluma High School FFA Boosters Fundraiser Dinner and Dance. This event was held at the Petaluma Elk's Lodge. There were Live and Silent Auctions items and raffle tickets for many prizes with all proceeds benefiting the Agriculture Department for Petaluma High School. Our table....

Sandy's cherished Raffle Prize & her ride home..... Dominic and I both attended Petaluma High School so it feels good to support this type of event. And fun to see people that attended high school with us who are now some of the parents of the kids benefiting from the Ag program at Petaluma High. Our Designated Driver on the right and more friends (thanks Mark!)........ Friends....highly motivated, they're training to compete in a marathon! More friends.... About 250 - 300 in attendance.... One of the live auctions items was a Wild Game or Fresh Fish Feed for 10. All proceeds from this item going towards the Dairy Judging Team's trip to Scotland in June Read more about the Dairy Judging Team that Dominic coaches and their upcoming trip to the Royal Highland Show in Scotland. Chantilly, who was patiently waiting in the car for her owners, came in for a little break.She's a pure bred Maltese....so cute!

The party moved downtown to Volpi's afterward..... The Volpi family, a long line of Dairy Ranchers that extends a few generations. They sold their herd of Holstein cows some years ago but continue to milk goats at the present time. Mr. Volpi (center) and other friends... Love this place! This is the bar area, a separate room from the restaurant. Volpi's used to be a speakeasy with a secret back entrance in prohibition days....

Such a feeling of Petaluma history comes over me every time I visit. The walls are covered with old photos and wild game....
