Future 4-Her

There is no way I could deny my youngest the opportunity to become involved in 4H.  With Bryce, beginning 4H at 5 years old, we found to be a  fantastic experience.  We didn't start him off with animals, he was more interested in cooking so that's the project we signed him up for.  Now, in his second year, he's into photography and cooking.

Like her brother, Paige will also sign up for cooking, since the meetings are held at our house, it's kind of a given.  But I think I see the purchase of a bunny hutch in our near future though.  The other day, at Marin Farm Day, my sister had her kid's 4H bunnies on display.  Remember Cinnamon?  Well, he was there and Paige was more than happy and very proud to take responsibility for showing him to all the kids who attended Farm Day.

Paige & Cinnamon sat with cousin, Leila and Dominic at the Marin Co. Farm Bureau table which was conveniently located right next to our 4H club's table and enjoyed showing the Holland Lop, Cinnamon to all who passed by.

Great life lessons can be learned from owning pets.  I know Paige will share her thoughts and secrets with her future bunny, just as she does with her stuffed animals now.  Having a pet she can call her very own will teach respect and responsibility for other living things.

Having a pet bunny {or any pet} will also provide a more in-depth lesson about life, reproduction, birth, illnesses and eventually death and bereavement.  Even though I don't like to think about the last two lessons mentioned, it's part of the circle of life.

If you want to see what Cinnamon and the other bunnies that belong to my sister looked like when they were babies, just click over to my Hoppity Hop post....Cinnamon was TINY! {she's the only brown one in the photos}

Did you grow up with a pet of your very own?

I love to hear from you! To leave a comment, click on the “Post a Comment” link below. Have a peaceful day.

Fresh Milk Straight From the Cow

There is almost nothing better than waking up on a foggy, Sunday morning by the smell of coffee brewing and knowing there's fresh milk, straight from our cows waiting to be poured into that coffee cup.  All that rich, creamy goodness is such a treat!

I have to say, if we didn't have access to our own fresh, raw milk I wouldn't buy it at the grocery store.  I would stick to the pasteurized.  But since we do, we run down to the milk tank almost daily to fill up our milk pitcher.

Hmmm....just heavenly.

Bryce's Special K cereal.

Okay, time to begin the day!

Let's move on to chickens......

Later in the day we drove over to my sister's house to visit their 2 month old baby chicks.  I had been meaning to get over there to take some photos of them when they were first born, all fluffy and cute but I never made it.  Not that they're not cute now, but I wanted to get some photos of all the fluff they were sporting when they were smaller.

These chicks were hatched in an incubator at my sister's house.  They ended up with four hens and four roosters.  They are now two months old and with most of their feathers coming in.  More fresh eggs coming soon to their house!  We were going to take four or so hens for our own upbringing but since there were only four hens out of the hatched chicks, we'll wait for the next incubator batch.

Remember Snowball ?  There she is looking in from the outside.  The baby chicks are kept in their coop for their own protection and until they are big enough to fly.

Paige, the animal lover wanted to hold every one of them.

And I couldn't leave without checking in on the baby bunnies that aren't very tiny anymore....remember them?  Here's Cinnamon saying hi!

To complete the afternoon, a fun ride on a mini 4-wheeler.

Hoppity Hop

We spent the evening at my sister and brother-in-law's house for Easter dinner last night. Their kids are in 4-H and have rabbits that they show. They just recently decided to breed their bunnies for the very first time. They now have, I think, seven new 14 day old baby bunnies. This was my first time ever holding a baby bunny. I COULD NOT get enough of them! Just look how tiny they are.......... I wanted to take one home....... This one was pretty cozy in Dominic's hands..... The is the smallest of all.... Basket of bunnies, all are 'Dutch' except for the little one, which is a 'Holland Lop'....... Paige and Grandpa Tony having fun. The bunnies would hop up our arms to get to our shoulders and nuzzle under our hair or next to our neck..... Bryce even got into holding one of them............ This one really liked my Dad......... My little animal lover was in heaven with two of them in her lap........ So, if you are local and in search for a new pet 'Dutch' bunny, the kids are selling a few of them for $10 or $15 each!! Happy Monday!! Pin It
