Fair time = Long, exciting and extremely fun days. Yesterday was our first day, out of five and already the kids began to ask about riding the carnival rides. For us, carnival rides will not happen until the end of the week {unless, of course, a willing adult other than myself wants to escort the kids over before then}but for us, it's mainly about the show animals. Caring for them, hanging out at the RV - livestock lot...almost like camping out for a week.
Yesterday we found furry creatures other than the cows we're more accustomed to hanging around.
This is about as close anyone can get to a Fallow Deer, I'm sure.
Always partial to any animal that's black and white in color......
So much fun at the little petting zoo. The animals are SO patient and tolerant, truly amazing.
The girls were extremely happy on this 88 degree day to run into Clo the Cow, of Clover Stornetta.
Because everyday, she scoops FREE vanilla ice cream cones from 1-4 p.m. at her booth near the livestock area.
Which makes for some very happy kids....especially if they're allowed to go back for seconds.
Most of the day we walk between the dairy barn and our 'home base', the RV.
But when the heat becomes to much to bear, we make our way to the Hospitality Room where the fridge is stocked with Clover milk.
And a little Sumpin' Sumpin' for the adults.
We finished off our day by practicing Showmanship with the animals in the show ring at 9 p.m. Bryce is not old enough to show yet, but really wants to. He'll be eligible to show next year as a Special Junior. I am ecstatic that he's showing an interest in showing cows, it's entirely up to him whether he decides to show in the future or not.
I think it helps him in the decision making process by tagging along with all of his older friends and cousins who are totally into it already. I can't say enough about the 4H program, it definitely creates some young role models and mentors.
The young teaching the younger, guided by the older generation.
If you would like to qualify to win four tickets to the Sonoma-Marin Fair {open through Sunday}, leave a comment below telling me what your first stop would be at the fair! I'll post the winner by midnight tonight and get the tickets to you Friday morning!
If you're local and planning on attending the Sonoma-Marin Fair, email me and I will be happy to introduce you to the cows belonging to our 4H group in the dairy barn, two of which are from our farm...Emma and Brownie.

Bryce has such a loving smile! Thanks for sharing "the other side" of the Fair. Look forward to seeing animals and friends this year!
My daughter said she would love to see the cute deer first. And of course we'd love to visit your cows!
We can't wait to go! Great blog! Thanks for sharing!!

We'd probably go see the animals. I grew up active in 4H (non-animals, but spend all week at the fair every year) and would love to check out the fairs around here. lksquires@gmail.com
Wait! We have to decide where to visit first???? It really depends on the mood...do we run to the carnival or to the ice cream booth first. No, maybe it's all of the animals and the petting zoo first. No, maybe it's the entertainment or the food section first. WAY TOO MANY FUN CHOICES. I think that if you were to award us the tickets, the very nicest thing to do would be to thank you in person-and bring you some cookies to go with all of that yummy Clover milk you are getting.
Love your blog-it's the first time I've read it. I am subscribing now. Heck, even if we don't win, we'll come over to say "hi." Have fun the rest of the fair!
Wow, my girls friends, animals, they just LOVE them. I think all the families that will go to the fairs will have so much fun and good memories. edrbmiller@gmail.com
Sounds fantastic! We'll go to the petting zoo first to see all the cute animals. Can't wait!
