Holiday Chocolate Butter Cookies to go along with Santa's Milk
It's holiday baking season and I know many of us try to find something new and exciting to bake for the holidays. I found this recipe straight out of Mrs. Claus' Cookbook to share with you. I think it's a nice variation to the original Butter Cookie....who doesn't like chocolate?! What better gift, than to give something created right from your own kitchen!
Holiday Chocolate Butter Cookies
Makes 3 dozen
Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup sweet butter, softened
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Toppings: (as desired)
chocolate chips or vanilla candy coating (melted)
finely chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts
candy
flaked coconut
fruit preserves
colored sugar
Directions
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Combine sugar, butter, egg yolk and almond extract in a large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often until mixture is light and fluffy (2-3 minutes). Continue beating, gradually adding flour and cocoa, until well mixed (2-3 minutes). Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into 1 inch balls. Place about an inch apart on cookie sheets. (shape balls or make sugar dipped glass or make thumbprint indentations). Bake 7-9 minutes or until set. Cool completely. Coat with melted chocolate or vanilla coating and decorate with chopped nuts, candy, coconut, preserves or colored sugar, as desired.
Let me know if you decide to try them!

Santa likes Milk with his Cookies & I Caught Santa!
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house........
Bryce: "We can't have a fire in our wood stove on Christmas Eve Mom! Santa will get burned!"
Me: "You're right! We won't have a fire going that night."
Bryce: "But how is Santa going to fit down the pipe?"
Me: "I'm not sure....maybe we'll leave the front door open for him."
Bryce: "How is he going to find our house?"
Me: "We'll leave the Christmas lights on for him, that way he can spot it from the sky. Plus, Santa really likes milk with his cookies so he knows where all the dairies are.....he'll be here."
Bryce: "Can we leave carrots out for the reindeer?"
Me: "Of course and they can also have a little snack at the commodity barn if they would like to with all the other deer that visit during the night."
The photo above is of our Christmas Tree in our living room and if you would like to "catch" Santa in your living room, go to this really neat website I found to show you how.... http://www.icaughtsanta.com/
And don't forget to leave Santa milk with his cookies!
