Twins

Part of the fun pet sitting at my sister's house when she's away is catching a glimpse of all the twins that have been born recently.  My sister's brother-in-law {who also lives on the ranch} raises organic lamb and sheep and while I was pet-sitting her furry critters, the pasture along the road leading up to her house was filled with these cuties....

I wish the kids and I could have gotten closer to them, but without looking as though we were practicing for  mutton busting or maybe, more appropriately, a sheep scramble competition, it wasn't happening.  They're wild little critters and wanted nothing to do with me or my two kids in tow.

So we just observed them from a distance.

Which was just as beautiful......but not peaceful.

"LOOK AT THAT ONE!" ~ Bryce

"THERE ARE TWINS OVER THERE!" ~Paige

"CAN WE CATCH ONE?!" ~Bryce

"CAN WE TAKE SOME HOME!?" ~Paige

And so on, and so on, and so on, until we reached my sister's house.

I love to hear from you! To leave a comment, click on the “Post a Comment” link below. Have a peaceful day.

Profound Things a 6 Year Old Says

When my sister asked me to feed her farm animals while she and her family were away, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to bring the kids with me and let them experience taking care and interacting with animals we don't have on our own farm.

Among some of the farm animals, there were a few laying hens and a couple of roosters to feed.  One of the benefits, as I mentioned before, was bringing home the farm fresh eggs the hens laid every day.

The kids got a kick out of opening up the hatch and finding eight eggs in different colors waiting for us. Like a treasure hunt, right?  Bryce questioned me on exactly where they came from and how they got there, and it was a great learning experience.

So, this morning, I thought I would scramble up some of those farm fresh eggs.  Bryce gets on these kicks for breakfast wanting the same thing day in and day out for weeks.  Right now it's scrambled eggs......or so I thought.

Here's how our conversation went:

"Okay kids, breakfast is ready"

Bryce says, " I.....HOPE......YouDidn'tMakeEggs!!!"

"I made them how you like them.  The last time daddy made them for you, he didn't melt the cheese enough and I  know you didn't like the way he made them."

"No, I don't like how the CHICKENS make them."

Oh dear.  I must admit, when you see it through a six year old's eyes, he's got a point.  So Bryce now refuses to eat eggs, end of story.  Maybe it wasn't such a great idea to bring Bryce over to feed the hens after all, hope he gets over it......

Hectic Life

I know life is hectic when I miss the preschool conference appointment that has been scheduled for over a month.....not just miss, completely forgot all about. Now, I thought about the appointment yesterday but this morning it was completely out of my head - even though it was written on my calendar and an alert was scheduled on my phone.  How could I do this?!
This isn't an excuse, but I had babies and chicks on my mind.

I've been wanting to take an updated calf birthing video and this morning, before taking Bryce and Paige to school, Dominic let me know that one of the cows was in the process of giving birth, but her water had not broken yet.  I thought maybe after dropping Paige off, I could rush home and catch the birth on video.

I was too late.  The calf was born and I missed the opportunity.

The chicks that are on my mind belong to my sister's family.  They're out of town and had asked me if I could come over to feed.  I love going over there because they have animals that we don't have; chickens, rabbits and Pygmy goats.

One of the benefits of feeding for them are the farm fresh eggs I get to collect and take home with me.  I love all of the different colors of the shells.

And who wouldn't want to visit with these two cuties?!
