A VIP Lunch and Potatoes for 70

If you follow me on Facebook, many of you noticed I was a bit stressed over roasting baby potatoes for 70 last week for Marin County Farm Bureau's V.I.P. Luncheon.  Sweatin' bullets actually.  But when friends and farmers come together, there's all sorts of help.....I should know this by now.

The V.I.P. lunch was held at the Pomi Ranch, a.k.a. Deer Camp.  My first job of the day was to get these potatoes going.  After board member, Nicola, washed all 40 pounds of them, Mark Pomi, had a plan for success; boil them first to soften them up. After that was completed, he and neighbor, Alan Cooper halved them as I layered them all in a gigantic roasting pan with all the goodies. We used olive oil, kosher salt, garlic, pepper and fresh rosemary sprigs from my garden.  Pop them in the oven for a while and that was it!

The purpose of this luncheon is to invite our elected representatives, department heads, planning commissioners, planning staff and other agriculture related organizations to share an informal lunch with Marin County Farm Bureau members and board members.

The luncheon is held each year, on a ranch in Marin County and for the past few years it's been at the Pomi Ranch. This is a chance for Marin County farmers and ranchers to share with our elected representatives a little about the lifestyles we lead for a better understanding of where we're coming from when speaking on county and state issues.

The weather was cause for concern.  It had rained the day before, our first storm of the season and more headed our way.
But we lucked out, the rain held off until the evening, thankfully.

On the menu was some juicy, flavorful tri-tip prepared by neighbor and friend, Jeff Rowley.  They were cooked to perfection.  Oysters donated by our local Tomales Bay Oysters, were served up as appetizers.  I think Dominic ate about 20, oh dear.

As guests began to arrive, oysters were served and wine was sipped.  Dominic, who is the current President of Marin County Farm Bureau, served a tray of oysters to guests,  Jeff Stump of Marin Agricultural Land Trust, and  Marin County Ag Commissioner Stacy Carlson.

Also in attendance was, Assemblyman Jared Huffman, Marin County Supervisor Steve Kinsey, Jared's aide, Jenny Calloway who were chatting with Dominic.

M.C. board member, Nancy Gates with M.C. Supervisor Susan Adams and M.C. board member, Jerry Gause.

Oysters a plenty, here being served to M.C. Supervisor Judy Arnold and her two aides, Carolyn Glendening and Tanya Albert.

Every time I see Judy Arnold she's rockin' with great outfits, love her boots!  Carolyn, Tanya, Judy and Cleo Gause.

Marin County Humane Society's Cindy Machado and Nancy McKenney talking with SCFB's Tim Tesconi.

Other than it being a bit chilly, lunch went well.

I was so busy running around, I totally forgot to take pics of the salad for 70 I put together and the other food!  Potatoes for 70 was it.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to leave a comment. I love to hear from you! Have a fantastic day!

  1. a glass (or two) of wine, a big platter of your potatoes, and i'd have been in heaven! of course, your potatoes feeding 70 would have been off the mark if i'd have been there. :)

  3. Great idea. Our county should do that - it is important to have your elected officials understand rural ideas and needs. Good job - on the potatoes too. :) Blessings from Wisconsin.
