This morning we attended the 5th annual 'Cruisin the Boulevard, Salute to American Graffiti' car show in Petaluma. This was our first time attending, and there were more than 400 classic car entries, the largest number of entries to date.
This event is a tribute to George Lucas' film 'American Graffiti' which was filmed in Petaluma in 1972, and to cruisin', cars, and music of the '50s and '60s. This is an all volunteer event that benefits community projects, schools, community programs that focus on the arts, history, safety and welfare of Petaluma.
Some of the programs scheduled for the day include a street dance, art displays, auctions, appearances by stars from the film and live bands performing all day long. The day winds down with a classic car and truck cruise from 4-8 p.m. on Petaluma Boulevard, just like the good old days.
Tri-Valley 4-H Club, which my son Bryce is a member of, ran a popcorn booth this year as a fundraiser for the club. The club also sold bottled water for the event producer as community service.
