Hanging Out In San Luis Obispo

Every year for the past eight years, we've spent the first weekend in May in San Luis Obispo.  Dominic coaches the Petaluma FFA dairy judging team and this is the weekend of the state finals held at Cal Poly.

We motor homed it down and parked at our cousin's and good friend's house, the Silaccis.  Rich manages the dairy at Cal Poly and both he and Dominic are Cal Poly alumni, so our trips down to San Luis Obispo always come with good memories re-lived for them.

On day one, we borrowed our friend's truck and drove down town to walk a bit and have some lunch.  We headed over to the San Luis Obispo Mission.  This is where my in-laws were married so it was fun to tell the kids this fact while we were exploring it.

Such beautiful architecture these old buildings have.

We go to church but not normally to such a historical one.  The statues really brought the story of Jesus to life for the kids.

The kids were drawn back to the statues after our first pass through. They wanted to look at all of them over and over again......and maybe even sneak in a touch.

After the mission, we walked downtown to find a place to eat.

And decided upon The Network, which had outdoor seating.

 Fish tacos for me.......

Pizza for the kids.............

Pulled pork for Dominic......

On weekend nights, The Network has live music play on their outdoor stage.  Paige decided to take the stage after lunch and put on a show for all who would listen.....

San Luis Obispo is definitely a college town but I absolutely adore it, we all just love it and need to make more than one trip a year here.

  7. San Luis Obispo was recently declared to be the happiest place in the world, or at least the USA. I'm glad you had fun enjoying it again. Sorry to not be able to see you. My granddaughter Macie danced on that same stage when they were here.

  10. It looks like you had a great trip. It must be difficult to get away from the farm. Thanks for visiting Porch Days. You live in such a different part of the world from where I am in New England. But I guess cows are the same everywhere. My husband likes Brown Swiss best and red and white holsteins second. We used to own a herd of Brown Swiss. Nancy H
